About MOAA Charities

What is MOAA Charities?
MOAA Charities is the charitable organization of the Military Officers Association of America. It exists to provide meaningful, practical support to servicemembers, veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors through a coordinated set of charitable programs.

 

Who does MOAA Charities serve?
MOAA Charities serves the entire uniformed services community, including active duty servicemembers, members of the National Guard and Reserve, veterans, spouses, caregivers, survivors, and uniformed services-connected children pursuing education.

 

What programs do MOAA Charities support?
MOAA Charities supports five core program areas:

  • Education Assistance, which provides grants and interest-free loans for uniformed services-connected students;
  • Crisis Relief, which delivers immediate financial assistance to uniformed servicemembers, veterans, and their families during hardships or emergencies;
  • Community Outreach Grants, which fund local support through MOAA councils and chapters;
  • Professional Development, which helps uniformed servicemembers, veterans, and spouses build skills and credentials; and
  • Financial and Benefits Education, which provides guidance on military pay, benefits, and long-term financial planning.

 

What is the mission of MOAA Charities?
The mission of MOAA Charities is to empower servicemembers, veterans, spouses, caregivers, survivors, and their families through impactful programs that honor service, address the unique challenges of military life, and support success beyond the uniform.

The MOAA Charities Merger

What is changing on March 1, 2026?
Effective March 1, 2026, The MOAA Foundation and the MOAA Scholarship Fund will merge under a single organization known as MOAA Charities. All charitable programs, fundraising, donor recognition, financial reporting, and stewardship activities will operate within this unified structure.


Why are the two charities merging?
By operating as one organization, MOAA Charities can direct more resources to mission delivery rather than parallel administrative processes. The unification reduces administrative duplication, strengthens governance and compliance, and creates a clearer and more efficient structure for donors and stakeholders.

 

Is the mission or purpose changing?
No. The unification is a structural improvement only. MOAA Charities’ mission, programs, and commitment to the military community remain unchanged.

 

Will donor intent continue to be honored?
Yes. Donor intent remains paramount. All restricted gifts, designated scholarships, and program-specific contributions will continue to be used exactly as the donor intended, both before and after the transition. specific contributions will continue to be used exactly as the donor intended, both before and after the transition.

 

What happens to existing Designated Scholarships?
All Designated Scholarships will continue exactly as they exist today. Scholarship criteria, award levels, naming, fund management, and administration will remain unchanged, and students will continue to receive support without interruption.

 

Will donor recognition or donor societies change?
Donor recognition societies may be updated to reflect the unified organization. While names or structures may evolve, no donor history will be lost, and all past, current, and future giving will continue to be fully recognized.


Do donors need to take any action because of the unification?
No action is required. Recurring gifts, estate plans, beneficiary designations, and scholarship agreements will continue automatically. Donors who wish to update their preferences may do so at any time by contacting the Development Team.

Giving to MOAA Charities

What EIN (Employer Identification Number) should I use when making a donation to MOAA Charities?
MOAA Charities will use the EIN currently associated with the MOAA Scholarship Fund as its primary tax identification number going forward (54-1659039). During the transition period, MOAA Charities will also continue to accept donations made using the EIN of The MOAA Foundation (46-4219250). Gifts made under either EIN will be properly receipted, tracked, and applied in full accordance with donor intent.
