Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)

The MOAA Foundation and MOAA Scholarship Fund both participate in the Combined Federal Campaign. Federal employees, including members of the uniformed services, and retirees may select TMF and/or the scholarship fund as their selected charity. Those interested in donating through the Combined Federal Campaign can set up their annual CFC pledge supporting The MOAA Foundation (CFC 86590) and/or the MOAA Scholarship Fund (CFC 11285) annually during a set time frame. Outside of that period, new employees or retirees are permitted to make pledges within 30 days of beginning their new position.

To set up your pledge, visit cfcgiving.opm.gov to create your donor profile and establish your pledge.

Securities

It may be to your financial advantage to give marketable securities - stocks, bonds, or mutual funds - instead of cash as a gift to The MOAA Foundation and/or MOAA Scholarship Fund.

Any securities you have owned for more than 12 months that have increased in value since you bought them are subject to long-term capital gains tax when you sell them. If you make a gift of these securities to our foundation however, you can save twice -- once when you receive a charitable deduction for the securities' fair market value as of the day of transfer, and again when you avoid the taxes on the capital gains. Consult your financial adviser regarding the details of such a transaction.

For more information and instructions on how to transfer your securities to The MOAA Foundation, call our Development office at 1 (800) 234-6622, or email development@moaa.org

Bequests/Estate Gifts

A bequest - a gift made through your will - allows you to retain control of your assets during your lifetime and distribute them as you wish upon your death. After providing for loved ones, many people choose to include a gift to The MOAA Foundation and/or MOAA Scholarship Fund.

Some of the most common types of bequests include a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of the estate, or the residual portion of the estate. A charitable bequest may reduce the estate tax. Consult an attorney when making or revising a will to ensure compliance with state law and to minimize any applicable taxes.

Please email development@moaa.org for language that your lawyer will find useful when drafting your request.

Donors who provide for The MOAA Foundation either by means of a bequest or a planned gift are eligible for Heritage Society. For more information, please call our Development office at 1-800-234-6622, or email MOAA_Foundation@moaa.org.

IRA Charitable Rollover/Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

This donation option is ideal for those who are 70.5 or older and own an IRA. A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) taken from your traditional IRA counts as a distribution for purposes of the required minimum distribution (RMD) rules. You can donate all or part of your annual RMD (up to the $100,000 limit) without having to count that distribution as taxable income. To do this, you must instruct your financial advisor, bank, or IRA administrator to transfer funds from your traditional IRA directly to a public charity, such as The MOAA Foundation or MOAA Scholarship Fund. Be sure to request your name and address be listed on the distribution check or accompanying materials and send it to:

  • The MOAA Foundation, PO Box 1555, Merrifield, VA 22116-9942, Tax ID: 46-4219250
  • The MOAA Scholarship Fund PO Box 1824, Merrifield, VA 22116-9917, Tax ID: 54-1659039

Both The MOAA Foundation and the MOAA Scholarship Fund are 501(c)3 charities and organizations of the type described in section(s) 509(a) (1) and 170(b) (1) (A) (vi) of the Internal Revenue Code.
